Osram Relase New IR LED for cameras
- Jul 30, 2018 -

Recently, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced an IR LED with a narrower beam angle of ±25°. Osram named the IR LED SFH 4718A IRED, a new member of its Oslon Black IR lighting portfolio.

The advantage of this IR LED is that the illumination unit of the camera system for medium capture range no longer requires secondary optics. This makes the entire system more compact and more cost effective. At the same time, the SFH 4718A offers excellent radiant intensity of 730 W/sr. At a current of 1 amp, the IRED provides a light output of 0.8 watts (W). Its 850 nm wavelength is barely recognized, but it is completely within the sensitivity of the camera sensor.

The Oslon Black Series offers a wide range of IR-based applications, including four power levels, three wavelengths and three beam angles.

Jorg Herlelein, who is responsible for marketing transmitter laser sensors at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, said, "With the addition of SFH 4718A, the Oslon Black portfolio now includes three wavelengths (810 nm, 850 nm and 940 nm) and three beam angles (± 25°, ±45° and ±75°), with four different power levels, light output from 0.3 W to 2 W”, “Because all products are based on the same package, the transmitters are easy to combine. Because the package remains The same, the existing design can be easily upgraded with the new one."

The Oslon Black range covers all types of infrared illumination. The main applications include the use of infrared light to illuminate areas monitored by closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. The closed circuit television (CCTV) system can be used to monitor public places such as parking lots and corporate premises, as well as museums and bank halls. Adding infrared illumination ensures that the camera delivers high quality images regardless of lighting conditions. IRED can also be used in automatic license plate recognition systems.
