His Excellency Sheikh Amd Bin Said Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airlines and Group, stated:

The announcement of this cooperation project is of great milestone for the Emirates Group, Dubai, and the entire UAE. The establishment and operation of the world's largest vertical farm is in line with the vision of the United Arab Emirates to promote greater self-sufficiency in agricultural planting.

This vision has been established since the founding of the United Arab Emirates and the late Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The innovative technology introduced on the farm will further strengthen Dubai's position as a global innovation center.

Saeed Mohammed, Chief Operating Officer of Emirates Airline Foods, said:

As one of the world's largest aerospace food operators, Emirates Airline Foods is constantly striving for technological innovation and looking for ways to increase productivity to deliver higher quality products and services. By introducing state-of-the-art technology, we ensure the supply of high quality, locally sourced fresh vegetables, significantly reducing the environmental impact.

We are honored to have a partnership with Crop One. As the industry's leading planting, packaging and distribution company, Crop One has the same corporate philosophy as ours. We are committed to providing the best products and value to our passengers and stakeholders.

Sonia Lo, CEO of Crop One Holdings, said:

Our successful business model has achieved long-term profitable output than any other large vertical farm. We use the finest planting science and efficient business models to provide the market with the high quality agricultural products we need every day. After 10 months of research, the Emirates Airline Department's choice to work with us also confirms the success of our business model, using patented technologies and processes to maximize crop yields and generate high returns.

When completed, the vertical farm will have an area of 130,000 square feet, equivalent to the production level of 900 acres of farmland. After full planting, the farm will produce 2.7 tons of high-quality green leafy vegetables without any herbicides and pesticides per day, which will reduce water consumption by 99% compared to outdoor planting. The location of the farm adjacent to the consumer area will also significantly reduce carbon emissions from transportation. At the same time, this ensures that fresh produce can be quickly delivered to customers within a few hours after harvest, ensuring the freshness and nutritional value of the vegetables.

The vertical farm is scheduled to begin construction in November 2018 and is expected to take a year to complete. The first batch of agricultural products is expected to be shipped to customers of the Emirates Airline Food Department in December 2019, including 105 airlines and 25 airport lounges.
